Summer 2018

<< Back to the main Stories/poems page

What a great summer with the heat on our back
Deck chairs in the garden, the fun and the craic
The sun is up in the morning and staying out all day
The frolicking children allowed out to play

No rain for a month, forecast by the met.
We go wild with delight while the gardeners fret
By car, train and tram we head to the seas
Did you hear that tomorrow will reach thirty degrees

Is the smell from the barbecues burgers or steak?
Get a beer from the fridge as I’m starting to bake
Weather warning is yellow, forecaster reports
Men of all ages parading in shorts

Turn off all the taps we’re in for a drought
Paddle pools for the kids are definitely out
The tar is all melting the grass is all scorched
This gorse on the hillside the vandals have torched

The summer rolls on and we’ve all got our tans
And to cool off at night we all turn on our fans
We’ve got used to it now will the heat ever cease.
It’s hard to remember “The Beast from the East”.
