When We Christened Julia Rose

<< Back to the main Stories/poems page

Standing by the fountain,
When we christened Julia Rose,
I saw a rainbow in a raindrop,
Clinging to her clothes.
How far you've travelled little raindrop,
To be with us today,
How long you must have waited,
To join us as we pray.
Were you in the swirling clouds
That started off all time,
Where you in the standing jar,
When Jesus made the wine.
You may have been among the ice,
That forged the hill and glen,
Or in the Red Sea parted,
To thwart the Pharaoh's men.
Have you rolled across Niagara Falls,
Or scored Grand Canyon's floor,
Roamed the mighty oceans,
A million years and more.
But still, you've seen a greater day,
More memorable than those,
For you were in the fountain,
When we christened Julia Rose.
