A lullaby of peace

<< Back to the main Stories/poems page

I want to walk along the cliffs
And down the promenade
I want to feel the gentle wind in my hair
And the sea mist upon my face.

I want to know what it is like
to feel like me again.
And look out upon the waves at the
seagulls swooping o’er

I want to know the me I was,
the carefree girl of yester-year
Who looked at skies so blue and dreamed
of all that’s good…
…in a life that’s creeping by

Today I will walk, once again,
down the Pier of Howth
And look out at the fishermen sailing in
At the closing of their day

I will allow the troubles of life
to be lost for just a while
And see the beauty of the sea
as the waves come rolling by

My God is with me, that I know
Today I will take the time
to gently tell Him so
And thank Him for the love He shows
In the warm summer sun
and the cold winter snows.
