Old Chapel Hill

Another oldie this week!

chapel hill 1981

The above picture was taken in 1981, and shows the stretch of road between Lucan BNS and the present Old Rectory.

The gate lodge on the extreme left of the photo (now an estate agents), was at the Rectory entrance, and Lucan families lived in the little cottages in between. Many Lucanians will remember Mrs. Mulhall, a dressmaker, who lived in the house nearest the school entrance. Next to her was Harry Lynch's little shop; next to it was Harry Nolan's and then Sonny McGovern, and possibly a Mrs. Reid in the next one.

The photo is part of the Patrick Healy / South Dublin Libraries Collection. It plus many other images of old Lucan can be found at www.southdublinimages.ie
