Kilimanjaro

<< Back to Main Local Interest page

On 2nd of August we landed in Africa for 12 hectic but enjoyable days. We landed in Narobi, Kenya and spent the next few days visiting the various projects that were connected with CHILD AID and of course the ones we had fund raised towards. After walking through the slums of Nairobi, we visited the school to which we were fundraising towards. We were treated like royalty, and every class sang a song for us. We also visited a rescue centre for children who suffer from abuse.

We moved into Tanzania then to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. We spent a total of six days on the mountain. On the morning of day five (approx 0745), through altitude sickness and tiredness we dragged each other to the highest peak (Uhuru peak 5890m).

We practically ran down the mountain after that.

At the base we visited a medical centre, which the money we have raised will also be used to supply. Chatting to the locals makes you realise how much the aid is needed.

It was a brilliant experience and a complete eye opener. I would recommend it to anyone.

Thanks for all your brilliant support
